Announced the details of the new season at the Greek Theatre in Syracuse. The 57 th season of the INDA Foundation at the Greek Theatre will open with the staging of two tragedies, the Agamemnon of Aeschylus (458 BC) and the Oedipus King of Sophocles (415 BC), which mark the origin of the history of theatre and human consciousness.
At the Greek Theatre of Syracuse will be staged the complete trilogy of the “Orestea”, namely the retailing chain of “Agamemnon” “Coephores” and “Eumenides”, and the story of a man, a family and a political cycle beyond history, will close the season. From 17 May to 9 July: Agamemnon by Aeschylus directed by Davide Livermore, Oedipus King by Sophocles directed by Robert Carsen, Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides directed by Jacopo Gassmann. On 8 and 9 July two unmissable events with the staging of the Orestea directed by Davide Livermore.
Here is some information about the protagonists of the tragedies of this cycle of classical performances at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse: Agamemnon, is the veteran who does not find in his house anything of what he had left and expected, arrogant king, by destiny. Oedipus leads his search for truth without any limit, giving way to the longest recognition of the history of the theatre. Both are caught by the unexpected in the most tragic of ways. And in a different form, the unexpected is also present in a dominant way in the third tragedy scheduled in 2022, the Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides, which takes place among unusual places, such as today’s Crimea. With this work, the mechanisms of deception and mockery destined, with Menander and Plautus, to give life to modern comedy burst into tragedy.
